Melody Ensemble started as a small outreach through The Vine Church and has grown into an inclusive music organization offering free performances and lessons to all, especially those in underserved communities. Our mission is rooted in the belief that music is not just performance—it's connection. We strive to:
1. Foster inclusion by creating an environment where individuals of all abilities feel welcome and empowered to participate.
2. Serve the community through performances in nursing homes, special needs programs, churches, and other outreach spaces that are often overlooked by traditional arts organizations.
3. Inspire joy and empathy by using music as a bridge between generations, backgrounds, and experiences.
4. Provide leadership and growth opportunities for young musicians to develop not only their technical skills but also their compassion, confidence, and sense of responsibility.
5. Celebrate every voice, recognizing that artistry and meaning are found in every expression, regardless of skill level or circumstance.
Through these guiding values, Melody Ensemble aims to build a musical community that listens deeply, plays with purpose, and leads with heart.
We are a group of dedicated individuals who believe in the transformative power of music. Each member of our team is passionate about creating an inclusive, supportive environment where every voice is valued and every note makes a difference. United by compassion and creativity, we work together to spread joy through music—one performance at a time.
My name is Sarahsihu Kim, and music has always been the heartbeat of my life—grounding me, challenging me, and connecting me to others in ways words cannot. As a classically trained flutist, I’ve been fortunate to study under Caroline Sonett through the Joseph Karger Scholarship at Mannes Prep, where I currently serve as principal flute. Years of disciplined practice, mentorship, and performances—both solo and ensemble—have shaped my musical journey. But beyond awards and recitals, what has mattered most are the moments when music truly touches someone’s heart.
That’s why I founded the Melody Ensemble. What began as a small outreach project through The Vine Church in Englewood, NJ quickly became something deeply personal and impactful. I envisioned an ensemble focused not just on technical skill, but on compassion—welcoming musicians of all backgrounds and abilities, especially those with special needs. Over the years, we have performed in nursing homes, churches, and underserved communities, bringing music where it is often most needed. I’ve witnessed how a simple melody can awaken recognition in someone with memory loss or bring joy to a child with autism who rarely engages with the world.
Leading this ensemble has taught me more than any audition ever could—patience, empathy, leadership, and the profound power of inclusion. Music is a gift I’ve been given, and through Melody Ensemble, I strive to give it back.
